Neal McCoy, Michael Martin Murphey, and Linda Davis (pictured here with her daughter, Hillary Scott of Lady Antebellum) are the 2009 inductees to the Texas Country Music Hall of Fame. I remember Linda most for her duet with Reba, “Does He Love You’”. That was a great video. But Linda has done a lot of of other things, too. She is a Grammy winning singer/songwriter, and has just released her newest album, ”Young At Heat.”
Linda was at Eau Claire Regional Arts Center in Eau Claire, Wisc., This Thursday night, and will be in Bartlett, Tenn., for An Evening with Linda Davis on March 28. She will be at Southside Virginia Community College on April 18; and at a benefit for Nashville’s local Alzheimer’s Association on May 9. That show will include Diana Degarmo and Michael Peterson. You can keep up with Linda’s show schedule here.
Neal McCoy, who I got to see at the Appalachian Fair a few years ago, is a Jacksonville, Texas, native. His bio says he’s 6’1” tall. I didn’t remember him being that tall. He was born Hubert Neal McGaughey Jr., but changed his name to Neal McGoy when he got his first record deal – he later changed that to McCoy. Neal is married with two children – and I love his influences … he lists Charley Pride, Frank Sinatra and Michael Jackson. There’s a trio for you.
Check out Neal’s web page, and be sure to go to “About Neal.” It’s loaded with fun facts, like his favorite food being double cheeseburgers; his favorite concert was the Carpenters; and even what he likes to wear on stage.
Michael Martin Murphey is already a Western Music Association Hall of Famer, and my favorite song of his is “What’s Forever For.” He has six gold albums, including Cowboy Songs (the first album of cowboy music to earn gold status since Marty Robbins). MMM has a show schedule up on his home page through December.
The induction ceremony will be held at 7 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 15, at 300 W. Panola St., in Carthage, Texas. Tickets are $60 for floor seats and $35 for balcony seats.
The tickets for the event will go on sale May 1, and you can get more information by calling 903-693-6634 pr 903-694-9561. You can also visit the Hall of Fame web site for additional information.
I’ll talk to you guys real soon. I have to get to the office, but I plan on answering mail this evening. Take Care!
