This is the last time you will hear me talk about our benefit concert … at least until after it’s over. Then, of course, we’ll have pictures to post! For those of you who have been putting off buying your tickets to tonight’s concert, there’s still time. Tickets will be available at the door, for both the reserved seating ($25 each), and general admission ($12.50 each).
The event is being held at Unicoi County High School in Erwin, Tenn. Doors will open at 5:30 p.m., and the show will start at 6:30 p.m., with Matt Stillwell opening for Randy Houser. This is going to be a great event, for a very worthwhile cause. So anyone in the area who would like to attend, please call 423-743-4112 for more information.
This has really been a major undertaking for our local relay teams, and we just can’t tell you how much we appreciate Randy and Matt donating their time and talents to our fund raiser. They’ve really been great, doing newspaper interviews for us, and helping us out in every way they could. And I know we’re going to have a great show.
Reggie Neel, from WXBQ radio, will be on hand to serve as our emcee. Reggie is the 10 a.m.-3 p.m. on-air personality at WXBQ in Bristol, Va., and we’re so happy to have him visit Erwin to take care of the announcing duties for the evening.
In an interview in the Johnson City Press on Sunday, Randy told reporter Jim Wozniak “We’re more or less just looking to help out. If we can combat a disease like cancer, I’m in.” “There’s nobody that’s not been affected (in some way) by cancer,” Randy said.
One accommodation Randy said he will make for the event is he will not bring his full band, in order to save costs. He said he and another guitarist will be the act. He will play songs and tell the story behind them. Randy called it “an intimate songwriter’s concert.” (From Johnson City Press article, May 3, 2009) I’m sure concert-goers will call the show fantastic.
Reggie Neel said in an interview that will appear in today’s issue of The Erwin Record, that both Randy’s “Anything Goes” has been around for a while, but still gets a lot of requests for radio play. He also said that they get a lot of requests for Matt’s up-beat “Shine.”
Any of you in the area that can make it to the concert – be sure to look me up. No telling where I’ll be….selling hot dogs at the concession stand, taking tickets at the door, selling tickets to people who don’t have them yet, or assisting in some other area…. but if you ask for Country, there’s only one.
One last thing, then I’m on my way to get everything in order for tonight’s show. In case any of you missed this, or in case you’d like to hear it again, click here to listen to the interview Reggie did with Randy back on Nov. 18, 2008, the day Randy’s album was released.
Talk to you all soon – as soon as I rest up a little bit. Write when you can!
