The folks over at Dixie 105.7 in Nags Head, N.C., have been talking a lot about Nashville recording artist, Dude Mowrey. His name is one I remember from a long time ago, but I couldn’t remember anything he had done, and I knew I’d never seen him perform. So I thought it was time I do a little checking around and find out what I could about this country singer.
I’m definitely living in the right era, because I’m not sure what I would do without the Internet and MySpace pages. Dude, as you might guess, has a MySpace page. And it’s complete with pictures, bio, and even videos. So I’d like to pass a little of that information on to you. And I encourage you to check out his MySpace page for yourself.
The songs you can listen to over on his MySpace are “I’ve Seen that Look on Me”, “Taste of Life”, “Sands to Hot”, “No One But You”, “The Promise”, and “My Bad”. The first one I listened to was “’I’ve seen that Look on Me,” and I immediately thought ‘that’s going to be my favorite’.
Then I listened to the rest. It would be impossible to pick a favorite one out of that bunch. What till you hear “My Bad”. His music is really country. I really hope I get to see this kid sometime in the near future. So I’ll be spending a good bit of time on his web site, checking out his show schedule.
Dude has been around for a while. He released his self-titled album, “Dude Mowrey” in 1993. Three of the songs from that album were released as singles, and while his bio said that his videos did well on CMT, he never got the chart success he was hoping for. I don’t know why not. Listen to his music, and let me know what you think. I’m seriously impressed here. I’ve got him singing in the background while I’m working on this.
By the way, if you live anywhere in that northeastern North Carolina area, you might want to check out Dixie 105.7. Joe Wade and Autumn Kozer, who do the Breakast Table every morning from 5:30-10:30 a.m., have been giving out tickets to see Dude at Patches Neon Moon Saloon in Jarvisburg, N.C. on July 4. This will be Patches first-ever Fourth of July Bash. To those of you close enough, or who might be vacationing in that area over the July 4 weekend, you can call Patches at 252-491-1111 to get more information about tickets. (For those of you who live too far away to pick up Dixie, you can go to their website (here) and click on Listen Live.)
Let me get one of Dude’s videos up here for you all. (I love his name “Dude”). This one is “Somewhere In Between”.
I’ll talk to you guys soon. I have got the busiest weekend ahead of me. From 7 PM tonight, until 7 AM Saturday morning, I’ll be at our Unicoi County Relay For Life raising lots of money for the American Cancer Society. I think Saturday is going to be a blur for me .. and I hope that’s because I get to spend several hours of my day time sleeping. I’ll talk to you guys soon, and I’ll get my e-mail answered just as soon as I wake up! Have a great weekend!

I have been a huge fan of Dude Mowrey since he came out in the early 90’s! He is amazing and I was so shocked that he didn’t make more albums back to back. I live in Indiana and I would come to North Carolina just to meet him. I hope someday I can just meet him and give him a hug. He is amazing! Thanks for posting this about him it just made my day!!!!
In 1993 I was the Program Director for US101 a Country Station here in Oregon. After hearing his CD and connecting with the songs I put it into heavy rotation. Then the time came to move on and I lost track with his music, but have placed that CD ever since and wondered what ever happened to him. Today I dedided to look on the net and see what happened to him. I’m glad to hear he’s still out there making music.
