I have to catch up with the new additions to our country music families. Time just gets away from me on occasion. Some of these new babies will be full grown if I don’t get them up here for you soon.
The first one is the newest. Zac Brown and his wife Shelly added their third child to their family on Sept. 9. Their new daughter, Georgia Sloan Brown, was born at 11:50 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 9. She weighed 8 pounds 9 ounces. She’s the third daughter for Zac and Shelly, with sisters Lucy and Justice waiting for their new sister at home. Can you imagine three children under the age of 3? Shelly might need a little extra help for a while, but I’m sure the entire family is on cloud 9. I’m sure you all know by now that Zac Brown Band has been nominated for four CMA awards this year. I think that’s great. I love this group.
Stokes Neilson (The Lost Trailers) and his wife Maria started the summer off by adding a new baby boy to their family. He was born on Monday, June 29, weighing in at 7 pounds 7 ounces. He has one sister, Averly, who is little more than 2 years old. I’ve been all over their web site, and all over the Internet, looking for the baby’s name. Can anyone help me out here? I met the band at the fair in August, and Stokes was kind of in a hurry to leave that night to get home to his family. But did I think to ask him what the baby’s name was? Nope. So if anyone out there has a minute, and knows what Stokes and Maria named their new daughter, let me know.
I’m sure I already told you about this one, but since it’s still summer (for a little while), and since I’m writing about babies, I thought I’d add this one to the list. Josh and Jennifer Turner added a second child to their family on June 29. Their new baby, Colby Lynch Turner, has one big brother, Hampton Otis. When Colby was born, Josh joked about his perfect timing, to People Magazine, when he said, “We finished the album last Thursday at 6 p.m. After I got home, Jennifer went into labor and we were at the hospital by 10:30 that night. Now that’s what I call perfect timing.”
Everyone knows that Jasper Warren Paisley was born to Brad and Kimberly on April 17, 2009. You remember we had to wait a few days to find out what his name was going to be. Anyway, Brad and his beautiful family will take the cover of the People Magazine, which will be released on Sept. 21. The cover reads “Brad & Kim’s Baby Bliss! At home with country superstar Brad Paisley, wife Kimberly Williams, 2-year old Huck and new brother Jasper.” It’s going to be a great article. Below is a press release from the People.
This week’s issue of PEOPLE features exclusive first photos of 5-month old Jasper Warren Paisley, the new son of country superstar Brad Paisley and wife, actress Kimberly Williams-Paisley, who welcomed their second child on April 17th. “I was really happy while pregnant, because I was looking at Huck [the couple’s 2-year-old son, William Huckleberry], madly in love with him and then so excited to meet the next one,” Kim tells PEOPLE.
PEOPLE was on location with the Paisley family at their 6,500 square-foot log-cabin, situated on 85 acres of farm land in Franklin, Tennessee, where Kim revealed that caring for the two boys is “challenging” because “we haven’t potty-trained Huck…Two feels like more than two. It feels like five sometimes! But we’re so fortunate that Jasper is happy most of the time.” Huck inspired his dad’s song Huckleberry Jam, which means that Jasper “will need a song, too!” adds Brad.
When it came to naming their older son William Huckleberry, the couple, who wed in 2003, wanted something “literary,” Brad tells PEOPLE. He suggested William for his wife’s last name and then, in the hospital, “threw out Huckleberry. I was [prepared for Kim to laugh], but she said, ‘I like it!’” For their second baby, Kim was the one who felt inspired. “I had a dream before I was even pregnant that I had a boy named Jasper,” she explains. “Then we researched it and learned that it’s a stone [believed] to protect against snake bites. Living out here on the farm, that seemed appropriate.” As for Jasper’s middle name, Warren, it’s a tribute to Brad’s late grandfather. “He gave me my first guitar,” the singer explains, “and told me if I learned to play, I’d never be lonely.”
Jasper is “more easygoing,” according to his mom, while Huck is a “very animated, fiery and dramatic” child, who happily sings the ABCs for guests and proudly shows off his daddy’s guitars – and even plucks a few notes on the banjo. And while he can name every member of Brad’s band, “The greatest question he’s asked is, ‘Mommy, does Jesus play the banjo?’” says Brad.
Since the Paisleys don’t have a nanny, they rely on a regular babysitter and on Brad’s parents (a.k.a. Gramzy and Grand-dad), who live about 10 miles away, for extra help. “They give us date nights, which is important,” says Kim, who is taking a break from acting and instead working on a young-adult novel with her dad, a retired freelance writer. “I don’t want to be anywhere else but with the kids right now.”
This is the Sept. 21 issue, and is available on newsstands now.
Here’s an interview Brad did when his first son (Huck) was about five months old. He’s always been a good interviewer. This one was done back when “Ticks” was on the charts.
I better run along. I slept in this morning – a rare treat for me even on a Saturday. So I have a lot to do. You guys have a great Saturday. And write when you have a chance. I plan on getting the rest of my mail answered tonight – so if I owe you one, it will be on it’s way later today.
