How many times can you go see the same person do a show, and leave the place raving about what you just saw? If the person you are talking about is Jake Owen, then the answer is every time!
Last year I saw Jake in Gray, Tenn., and after that show, I came home and told you all about it. You can read what I had to say by clicking here. Last night I went to the Washington County Fair in Abingdon, Va., to see Jake again. And, I’m raving about it this time, too!
Jake is a fantastic entertainer. He put on a two hour show, which included a short acoustic set (to give the band a much needed break, I’m sure), and of course we got to hear all our favorite Jake songs.
He keeps growing artistically, and he is still as nice to his fans as he was last year in Gray. I mentioned that to Jake, and he said, “I think I’m still as nice as I was when I was just a college student.” Jake, I can definitely believe that about you.
He’s patient, he doesn’t seem to be in a hurry when he meets fans, and if it weren’t for security trying to push the fans along, I think he’d stand and talk to them all night. I’m not sure what time he got to the end of that very long line at the fair last night – but you can be sure that after telling the crowd he would stay until everything was signed – he was going to do that for them.
This is a kid who meets thousands of people every year. Yet he not only remembered me, but he remembered what I wrote about him on this web site last August (2008). He told me he even had his mom read it. Thanks, Jake! I always like getting new readers!
It was good seeing Myron Howell (Jake’s drummer) again, too. He is just one of the most amazing drummers I’ve ever seen. I really enjoy watching him work. Jake has a great band behind him, they’re all really good musicians who know how to put on a great show.
Jake will be heading to Jonesboro, Ark., on Sept. 22, for a show at the NE Arkansas District Fair; on the 24th, you can catch him at Bank Atlantic Center in Fort Lauderdale, Fla., and then over to Tampa on Sept. 25, for a show at St. Petes Times Forum. He’ll jump up to Atlanta on Sept. 26 to a show at the Verizon Amphitheater before going back to Florida (Ft. Pierce) on Sept. 27, where he will be at the St. Lucie County Fairgrounds.
October will be busy, too, as Jake has shows lined up in Alabama, Texas, Mississippi, Ohio, Texas, Louisiana, South Carolina, New Jersey and Colorado. You can find out the “where and when” by checking the schedule on his home page.

Hope you all enjoy your Sunday. Drop me an e-mail – with no fairs to attend this week, and an “almost caught up” situation at work, I should be able to answer you fairly quickly. And, you all know how much I enjoy your e-mails! Talk to you soon!
