Taylor Swift has been nominated for eight Grammy awards this year. "I started freaking out and jumping up and down," Swift, who received mentions for album and record of the year, among others, told the Associated Press. "I honestly never would have predicted this, eight nominations – I’m ecstatic, and blown away and so, so thankful."
According to MTV News, Swift received the news while in a hotel room with her mom editing videos. Her producer texted the news to her: "AAUUGGH!!!!!"
"To be recognized by the Grammys is the ultimate honor, and all I know is that when I write about this in my journal tonight it will be in all capital letters and underlined four times, and there will be lots of exclamation points in this entry because I never imagined I’d get to write this kind of journal entry," Swift said.
Taylor was nominated for Record of the Year for You Belong With Me; Album of the Year, Fearless; Song of the Year, You Belong With Me; Best Female Pop Vocal Performance, You Belong With Me; Best Pop Collaboration with Vocals, Breathe (Taylor and Colbie Caillat; Best Female Country Vocal Performance, White Horse; Best Country Song, White Horse; and Best Country Album, Fearless;
Keith Urban was nominated for four Grammy awards, and said he had no idea songs on his album, Defying Gravity, would connect with people the way they did. "We saw it night after night on the Escape Together Tour and to now end the year with these nominations is pure magic," he told US magazine.
Other country artists who have been nominated for Grammy awards include George Strait, Trace Adkins, Jamey Johnson, Carrie Underwood, Martina McBride, Miranda Lambert, Billy Currington, Lee Ann Womack, Lady Antebellum, Rascal Flatts, Sugarland, Brooks and Dunn, and Zac Brown Band. In case I missed anyone, you can find the complete list here.
I always watch the awards shows. I have my favorites picked out. I’d like to see my favorites win, but if they don’t – that’s ok. They’re still my favorites. I guess what’s most important to me, and probably to the artists, is how many CDs can they put out that their fans will absolutely love… how many concerts can they do that fans will line up early to buy their tickets…. I really think all that is more important than how many awards they have in their trophy case. But, I still like to watch. And I’m sure I’ll be sitting in front of my TV on Jan. 31, 2010 – taking notes as each of the winners are announced.
I better get out of here – I’ve got thing so to do before I head to work this morning. Hope you all have a good Friday, and a fantastic weekend! Talk to you soon!
