I spent most of yesterday sitting in the field behind Unicoi Elementary School in Unicoi, Tenn. The event was the annual Wayne Scott Strawberry Festival. There were lots of strawberries, bands or dance groups on the stage all day, and games for the kids. I was there are a volunteer for our local Relay For Life team for the American Cancer Society. We were selling tee-shirts to raise money for our team.
Raising money on a much larger scale is Toby Keith, who is getting ready for his seventh annual Toby Keith and Friends Golf Classic, May 21-22, 2010, in Normal, Okla. In addition to the golf tournament, there will also be a dinner and auction. Money raised will be used to help young cancer patients and their families.
The Toby Keith Foundation is also funding the OK Kids Korral. A 16-room guest lodge housing pediatric cancer patients and their families on the grounds of Oklahoma University Medical Center. With completion expected in 2012, the 30,000 sq. ft. facility will be a haven of respite for families of young children struggling through cancer treatments.
Toby is currently on his eighth USO Tour, visiting four countries over 14 days and performing 24 shows for troops in Korea, Germany and forward operating basis in the Persian Gulf region. Additionally, he has his tour dates up on his web site from May 29 through September 25.
We have another fundraiser today, too. Right after morning worship today, our church Relay For Life team is having a Salad Luncheon. Potato salad, macaroni salad, chicken salad, toss salads, every kind of salad you can think of will be served in the fellowship hall to raise money for ACS.
I better get busy with my Sunday. I hope you all have a great day. Write when you get a second. Always great getting mail from you.
