I’m pretty sure all country music fans found themselves sitting in front of the television set on Wednesday night, June 9, watching the CMT Video Awards show. But, since I never put up an article about it, I thought this was the perfect time to give you all a little recap of the show — and list the winners of the major awards for you. We’ve also got a few photos of the artists arriving at the event.
All of the award winners are chosen by the fans. So it really wasn’t a surprise that Carrie Underwood was the recipient of the night’s highest honor, winning Video of the Year for “Cowboy Casanova”. That wasn’t my favorite video out of the ones nominated. My personal pick was Jason Aldean’s “The Truth.” However, anyone on Twitter knows that Carrie had the biggest and most organized ‘election campaign’ going on. (Now, before Carrie’s fans get mad at me — I did not say I don’t like Carrie Undersood, and I did not say I don’t like “Cowboy Casanova” – I simply said it was not my favorite video of the ones nominated).
I was very happy to see Miranda Lambert receive her first CMT award for “White Liar”. I don’t think she’s gotten the recognition she deserves over the years. As for Keith Urban winning Male Video for “Till Summer Comes Around,” I just couldn’t believe that was his first time. With the career Keith has had, I really thought he had won this award before. Luke Bryan picked up the award for Breakthrough Video of the Year.
Lady Antebellum won Group Video of the Year for “Need You Now,” Blake and Trace won Collaborative Video of the Year for “Hillbilly Home, and Brooks and Dunn won Duo Video of the Year for “Indian Summer.” That surprised me — a lot.
This was fan voted, remember … Sugarland was nominated for two (“Keep You” and “Joey”) … I know Sugarland has a lot of fans. I wonder if they didn’t win because half of their fans voted for one video, the other half voted for the other video — and all of B&D’s fans only had one to vote on. Whatever the case, I suppose it was a good ‘going away present’ for B&D. And I know Sugarland will be with us for a lot more years.
I enjoyed the performances by Brad Paisley and Tim McGraw. And I always like seeing what the artists wear and who they are with. I probably enjoy that more than seeing who wins the award. But no matter why you watch, you are always going to get a great show. The CMT Music Vide Awards are on my calendar every year.
Better run – I’m going to answer mail now. I’ll talk to you guys soon! Keep writing and keep reading!
