To me a sequel to the 1992 movie, would be where George Strait (Dusty Chandler) and Isabel Glasser (Harley Tucker), ended up married, had a child, and that child would become the focus of the sequel. Which would be a realistic, believable story about a country artist trying to make a name for herself in the country music industry. At least that is what I would have expected. I’ve seen Pure Country a million times, I think we all have. And I still love it.
Now, let me tell you what little I know about Pure Country 2: The Gift.
Apparently, a young girl named Bobbie (Katrina Elam) is given the gift of music. She has a beautiful voice. This gift was given to her by three angels. And it comes with rules. Rules that she has to follow in order to be able to keep singing.
But she grows up, moves to Nashville, somehow gets to a point in her life and her career where she starts breaking the rules, and the voice starts to go. She does get advice from George Strait, who apparently is on tour with her in the movie. At least he’s the headliner. Not sure I would have been ready to see George as an opening act.
The movie is being released to “select theaters” on Oct. 15. I have no idea where those theaters will be, but I kind of doubt we’ll get it around here. We never did get “Broken Bridges” (Toby Keith) in our area. But I didn’t have to wait long to see it come out on DVD and being played on CMT. I think this one is going to be the same kind of movie.
If it gets to a theater near me, I’ll definitely go. Like I said – George Strait, country music, filmed in and around Nashville. I’ll be there. And if it doesn’t get close to here, I’m sure I’ll be able to buy it soon.
You can get a look at the trailer here. Strange plot, not sure if it’s a drama or a fantasy, probably a little bit of both. Let me know what you think. My favorite part … It’s George Strait!
