Toolpusher Recording artist Jason Sturgeon met up with Cowboy Troy behind the scenes at a recent performance. The two paused for a quick photo before heading onstage. Sturgeon’s brand new single "Rollin’ On" is currently on the Indicator Chart and continues to gain momentum. Sturgeon’s dog, "Max" appears with him in the music video for the song and fans should be able to see it soon on local and national video outlets.
The photo and one-paragraph article above came in a press release the other day. Since I never heard of Jason Sturgeon, I thought this would be a very good time to look him up, and of course write about what I found out.
I visited his MySpace page and read a little about him, and listened to a few of his songs. His CD, “That’s Me” was released early in August. I think my favorite song is “Alone Again Tonight.”
His current single, “Simple Life” paints a very vivid picture of living in a small town, and everything that is part of that. The video for that song is up on his MySpace. I haven’t heard “Simple Life” on the radio in this area yet, but as it says in the little press release above – it is being played, and is currently on the Indicator Chart – and moving up.
Jason’s music is country, and it is very likeable. There’s nothing really unique about it, or different. I didn’t hear anything that will make him stand out in the very crowded field of new country artists, who are trying to make a name for themselves. But he obviously is headed in the right direction. He has a label. He has a record that is getting some air play, and he has a CD that looks promising.
I did like what an article at Nashville.com said about him – When Jason Sturgeon sings, he’s not just painting a picture of small town America. He’s describing who he is. Born and raised in Petersburg, IN, (pop. 3500) Sturgeon grew up in a family of coal miners, oilmen and farmers who literally made their living off the land, and still do to this day.
I hope you will visit his MySpace, and his web site, to find out more about Jason, and listen to his music. You can also follow Jason @Jason_Sturgeon on Twitter.
Time to run. Write when you get a minute!
