How many of you would be surprised if I told you that George Strait’s 2010 tour with Reba McEntire and Lee Ann Womack grossed a whopping $41.6 million for the year? With those kind of numbers, it isn’t really a surprise that George , Reba and Lee Ann are back on the road again in 2011.
George has also announced that he is starting “Red Shirt Friday,” to recognize our men and women serving in the military.
The tour picked up again on Jan. 14, in Austin, and shows are scheduled and listed on George’s web site, through April 9, 2011.
In addition to the tour, George has the 29th annual George Strait Team Roping Classic happening March 11-12, at the San Antonio Rose Palace. The event, which originated as a small family roping by George and his brother Buddy in 1982, has grown into the most prestigious open Team Roping competition in the country. The GSTRC has become the premiere open in the sport with hundreds of thousands of dollars up for grabs each year.
The GSTRC is not just for the big names however. As an open roping, ropers of all levels may compete alongside each other for a chance at the big winnings. In 2010, nearly 500 teams competed for nearly $700,000 in cash and prizes. Heeler Jake Long and Header Coleman Proctor walked away with the Champions title along with $79,815 each. In addition to the cash, they each won a custom painted GSTRC Championship Chevy Silverado Dually from Cavender Chevrolet (Boerne, TX), a Strait X-treme horse slant trailer from Bruton Trailers and Twister saddles from Tractor Supply. This tour had a lot of surprises in 2010 – with guest appearances by Kelly Clarkson, Melissa Peterman, and even Brooks & Dunn performing at some of the shows.
I’m sure any country music fans who missed out on the tour in 2010 are going to have a look at this year’s schedule to see if they will be heading your direction. I am one of the fans who did not get to the show last year. Unfortunately, it doesn’t look like they are going to be close enough to me on this continuation of the tour, so I’ll miss out on this time, too.
The pictures you are seeing here (with the exception of the one on the left), were taken by one of my readers, Girl4Reba/Jeanne, when she saw this show in Philadelphia on Oct. 15, 2010. If you missed the great show review and photos she did for Country’s Chatter, please click here to have a look at that post.
This is a great time for me to remind all of you that whenever you go to a s how, I would love to have some of your pictures to share with readers. And, if you’d like to write a review of the show, I would enjoy that, too. So keep your camera in hand, and me in mind, whenever you go see your favorite artists.
Have a great Sunday everyone. I’ll talk to you soon!
