Allen 11Grammy-nominated singer, songwriter and performer Deborah Allen has released a spirited and dance-friendly new single to Country radio, titled “Anything Other Than Love.” That is the opening sentence from a press release I received today. And let me tell you, that description is accurate. This is without a doubt a song you would expect to hear at your local ‘honky-tonk’, ‘dance hall’, ‘club’ or any  ‘bar with a band and a dance floor.’  It’s a good sing-along-with-me song.  And after I played the song three times, I was…singing along.  But, I know how picky some of our radio program directors are, so we’ll have to wait and see if they think it is as good for radio as it is for dancing.

Here’s the rest of the press release for you all.

Deborah Allen

Allen wrote the up-tempo Country shuffle with BMI Songwriter of the Year Gary Burr and produced the track herself, along with eight of the 11 songs on her upcoming 2011 summer release, Hear Me Now.  Good friend and legendary songwriter/producer Bobby Braddock contributed his production skills to the album’s other three songs.

“Deborah is singing better than ever, which is saying a lot!” says Braddock.  “‘Anything Other Than Love’ is one of the best Country singles in years.  It just keeps rockin’ my brain!”

Allen credits her stepdaughter, Hilary, as the inspiration behind the song.

“I was about to head out to a writing appointment with Gary one morning when Hilary called,” Allen says.  “I casually asked her what she thought I should write about that day, and she said, ‘You write a lot of songs about love; you should write a song today about anything other than love.’  I felt that little zing in my heart that I get when I feel really inspired and thought, ‘Hey that’s a great idea – literally!’  Later that day, Gary and I wrote the song exactly that way, ‘Anything Other Than Love’!”

deborahAllenWith career hits like “Baby I Lied,” “I’ve Been Wrong Before” and “Rock Me,” Deborah Allen is widely recognized for her versatility and success on both the Country and Pop charts.  A two-time Grammy nominee and recipient of multiple BMI Millionaire Airplay awards, Allen has also written hits for dozens of artists, including LeAnn Rimes, Brooks & Dunn, Tanya Tucker, Patty Loveless, John Conlee, Janie Fricke and others.

In recent months, Allen has also been writing material with and producing the forthcoming debut album from Country newcomer Margaret Phillips.

Hear Me Now will be released this summer through Nashville-based independent label Delta Rock Records in a joint venture with GMV Nashville, which is handling the worldwide digital distribution of the project.
