I don’t see a lot of surprises in this year’s list of ACM Awards. There are some I will argue with, bur for the most part, I’m not unhappy. Seems most of my favorite artists are nominated for something, and I’m sure the rest of my favorites will be right up there with them, in a year or two.
I still have to argue this one though – We have Taylor Swift nominated for Entertainer of the Year (again), and for Female Vocalist of the Year. My problem with this – Taylor belongs in the Entertainer of the Year category. One thing that girl can do is put on an awesome show. But, I don’t believe she belongs in the Female Vocalist category. And if you’d ask Taylor, she’d probably agree. The girl’s vocals are not even close to what we get from Sara Evans, Miranda Lambert, Martina McBride or Carrie Underwood.
I was a bit surprised to see Love and Theft in the Vocal Duo category. The kids are great. I’ve always liked them – when they were a trio and now that they are a duo, I still like them. But I don’t think they’ve done much this year, so I was really surprised to see them nominated. And Steel Magnolia, who I just adore, is also nominated in that category. Now that Big Machine Records dropped them, and the kids don’t seem to be performing together anymore, I’m not sure who would even be on hand to accept that award, should they win it.
I love that Eric Church is nominated for Album of the Year, and that Chris Young is among our Male Vocalist nominees. And how awesome for Lee Brice that the song he wrote for Eli Young Band (“Crazy Girl”) has been nominated for Song of the Year. It is also nominated for Single of the Year.
So, I’m not really surprised with the nominations. Let’s see what happens on awards night, April 1. Maybe I’ll be surprised by some of the winners at the event.

What do you guys think about the awards? Are there too many (ACM, CMA, ACA, Grammy, People’s Choice, etc. etc, etc.)? Do you think the awards mean a lot to the artists, or are they losing some of the prestige they had when there weren’t quite so many. How to you feel about this year’s nominees? Drop me a line, or leave me a comment. I’d love to know what you think about all this.
More later!

I’m with you on just about everything, suprisingly even about Taylor! She does put on one heck of a show and has an amazing talent to write songs that speak to young people, especially young girls (surprise, surprise). How many teenagers can write all the songs on a blockbuster album like hers, even if they are mostly more pop than country? You are spot on about her vocals too. She is no Carrie Underwood for sure!
The rest of the nominees are expected and of course you know who I’ll be pulling for the most. I would like to see Montgomery Gentry recognized and I think Jason will win at least one or two here too.
I love award shows, especially if an artist that isn’t being recognized on some shows breaks through and finally gets one…like Jason did finally on one of the shows. I was so happy for him! Besides, there isn’t much I enjoy on TV anymore so this is a welcome interuption from the bordom. Lastly, it is a way for those not into country music to see all the amazing talent out there…like I did! Thanks for letting me ramble on. :o)
Ramble all you want to, Shirlene – I really appreciate you taking the time to comment.
Hope you and the family are doing well – remember when you get any great pictures I don’t have…just shoot them off in my direction!
Thanks so much for everything. See you soon, I hope.
