Those of you who know me, know there isn’t a minute of the day when I’m not listening to music. Much of the time it’s my favorite CDs, usually sung by new artists who haven’t found their way to country radio yet. But, the rest of the time I’m listening to our local country station, which I think is one of the very best anywhere. I’ve noticed recently that this country station is playing a lot of music by newer artists – some artists who have been around for a while, but never really made it big on the radio. One of those is Kacey Musgraves.
You may remember Kasey from season five of Nashville Star (I really miss that show). That was the year Angela Hacker won (I wonder what ever happened to her)… and it was also the year that I think David St. Romain should have won. And, it was the year I was introduced to a very talented country artist, Kacey Msugraves.
She’s a 23 year old singer/songwriter, who has her debut album set to release later this year. She’s been performing since she was eight, and wrote her first song when she was nine. Some of what she wrote made it’s way to Miranda Lambert’s current album, including “Mama’s Broken Heart,” which Kacey co-wrote – and, which Rolling Stone Magazine ranked No. 26 in their ‘50 Best Singles of 2011” list.
Her web site tells us her musical influences range from Loretta Lynn and John Prine to bands like Cake and The Beach Boys. Kacey was honored to open for Willie Nelson last year and recently wrapped opening for Lady Antebellum in Europe and Alison Krauss in the US. I love the picture above, which Kacey had on her facebook page.
You can follow her on Twitter @kaceymusgraves, and visit her facebook page, too. She already has shows up on her web site for 2013, when she will be on the road with Little Big Town. Hoping it doesn’t snow, and I will be able to make the Jan. 31, 2013, show in Murray, Ky. That’s where the grandkids live! So I could kill two birds with one stone…great concert, and visit the grandkids.
I’ll be back with more later. Hope you’ll visit Kacey’s web site and facebook. And if you aren’t hearing Merry-Go-Round on your local radio station, give them a call and request it.
