For years now, residents of Northeast Tennessee and Southwest Virginia have enjoyed Lakeside Cinema at Winged Deer Park. This year, the event is moving to Cardinal Park on Legion Street in Johnson City.
The movies will again be shown on a large, outdoor screen, and are of course free to the public. Movies, as in the past, will be shown every Thursday night shortly after sunset. The park opens at 7, and concessions will be available.
Here are the movies for the 2013 Movies in the Park.
Angels In The Outfield
Thursday June 6
When a boy prays for a chance to have a family if the California Angels
win the pennant, angels are assigned to make that possible.
Madagascar 3: Europe’s Most Wanted
Thursday June 13
Alex, Marty, Gloria and Melman are still fighting to get home to their beloved Big Apple.
Their journey takes them through Europe where they find the perfect cover:
a traveling circus, which they reinvent – Madagascar style
Thunderstruck
Thursday June 20
A basketball star switches talent with a klutzy 16-year-old fan.
Hotel Transylvania
Thursday June 27
Dracula, who operates a high-end resort away from the human world, goes into overprotective
mode when a boy discovers the resort and falls for the count’s teen-aged daughter.
There you have it – the Lakeside Cinema is gone, but the summer fun continues with Movies in the Park. That is a great group of family films, so I hope to see all of you at Cardinal Park on Thursday nights in June!
More later!

What happened at wing deer park to cause the move? I took the kids last night and this is not the solution . The kids that where outside the park where out of control, disrespectful. The police were basically babysitting the rowdy crowd. Parents left long before the movie ended. This needs to be addressed and fixed. I have attended this event for years and now I have to say my family will not go back. City officials need to attend this event and access how things have changed. I asked the 2 venders if this was a successful night for them and both said no.
