Chris Lane and Florida Georgia 149Florida Georgia Line will be the hosts for the inaugural American Country Countdown Awards, which will air on Fox on Dec. 15, at 8 p.m. The show will air live from Nashville’s Music City Center.  The awards are based on country music’s longest running radio countdown show, now in its 41st year, and carried on more than 280 radio stations in the country.

This is a good group on nominees. I would have liked to see a few females in the Artist of the Year category, as well as Digital Song of the Year, and Song of the Year – but still, a good group of nominees. As I understand this competition, it won’t be voted on by fans, or selected by members of any ‘academy’. The winners are to be determined by radio airplay and touring status. I seems the only exception to this is Breakthrough Artist of the Year, since I noticed a few of the artists have links for fans to vote for them, on their Facebook page or web sites.

Seems the more of these awards shows that pop up ever year, the less important they become. What do you all think about awards shows? Are there just too many of them? Is it more important to sell your songs, and get fans in the seats at your concerts than it is to win awards? Does one even have anything to do with the other? I don’t buy my concert tickets based on whether or not an artist won an arm load of awards. I buy my concert tickets based on the music they are putting out, and on how well they entertain the audience when they are on stage. I really don’t care if they ever won an award. I’m there for the show! If I’m home on Dec. 15, I’ll watch. But this one is so close to the Christmas holiday, there sure is a lot to do!

Back with more soon!
