I need to do a few things with this post. First, I want to thank Drew Johnson for coming to our area to perform last night. Second, I just have to thank the folks at Jiggy Ray’s Pizzeria in Elizabethton, Tenn., for having him! And, third – I have to tell all all of our readers about Drew Johnson and his music.
What a great way to spend a Thursday night. Our readers have often heard us say that we live in the right place for country music fans. No, we aren’t in Nashville. But, we don’t have to be when our area has some really fun venues like Jiggy Ray’s Pizzeria in Elizabethton, Tenn. For our Northeast Tennessee folks who may not have been to Jiggy Ray’s yet, this is one place you need to check out. The food is awesome, the wait staff and management are friendly, the service is top-notch, and the entertainment is always awesome! Visit their Facebook page, you can get more information about the menu, the music, the location, and anything else you might want to know.
Now, let me tell you all about Drew Johnson. If you haven’t already guessed, he is a singer/songwriter. He is originally from Cary, N.C. Drew spent the last few years in Nashville, and is now traveling all over the East Coast performing his original music, and some of our favorite country tunes as well. Last night, a request from someone in the audience gave us a look at a little Elvis hiding inside this artist.
His latest single is titled “Off the Tracks”, and he describes it as an ‘upbeat, gritty country song with a twist of southern rock’. Drew tells us he grew up listening to Third Eye Blind, Lynyrd Skynyrd, AC/DC, Keith Urban and Garth Brooks – and, while I’m sure all of those artists have had an influence on his style, he definitely has a sound that is uniquely his own. He can sing Elvis songs or Garth songs, without sounding like Elvis or Garth. He has his own individual talent, coupled with his comfort on stage, and very enjoyable way of connecting with his audience.
Being on stage is not something new to him. Drew has had a lot of experience working as a full-time musician and sharing the stage with folks like Cassadee Pope, Brian Davis, Buddy Jewell, Channing Wilson, Ricky Young, and others. The last time I saw Drew Johnson he was accompanying up-and-coming country artist Brittany Bexton at a show in Damascus, Va., back in 2013 [article here]. He knows his way around a stage, and obviously enjoys entertaining for his audience.
In addition to Drew’s web site, visit his Facebook page (and remember to “Like” it while you are there). You can also head over to Reverbnation, and listen to a lot of his music there. He has a show schedule up on Reverbnation, too. He will be in Raleigh, N.C. tonight, N. Topsail Beach, N.C., on Sunday, and next Saturday he is headed to Spraggs, Pa. Be sure to keep up with the schedule, you will want to be in his audience when he gets somewhere close to you.
All of you who have Twitter accounts will want to follow Drew there, too. He is @D_Johnson_Band. If you aren’t already following Country’s Chatter on Twitter, we’d love to have you! You will find us @countryschatter.
Hope you are all enjoying your Friday! I will be back with more soon!
