Craig Morgan

We listen to a lot of country music around here. Some of it is okay.  Some of it we really like. Some of it gets played a lot in the office.  But, it really isn’t all that often that we get super excited about a new release.  Today, we listened to Craig Morgan’s new single, “When I’m Gone,” and we got excited! I wouldn’t want to venture a guess as to how many times we’ve listened to it since the e-mail arrived. It’s one of the first really great songs I’ve listened to in a very long time. After we played it through a few times, I called the biggest and best country station in our area, and asked if they received this song yet.  I was told, “they are listening to it now”. I hope they like it as much as we do.

“When I’m Gone” is such a well-written song. It could be written about Craig’s life – but at the same time, it could be written about any of our lives. I can’t wait for you all to hear it, and I want you to really pay attention to the lyrics. It opens and closes with the line, “My last breath I wanna take with a smile”. The song was written by Justin Ebach and Steven Dale Jones, and produced by Byron Gallimore.

I just wanted to sit and chill out, listening to that upbeat tempo combined with those very creative lyrics. Craig is singing about when he’s gone.  Yet, it’s almost a happy song. Not because the lyrics are talking about someone leaving this world, but because they are talking about everything that person went through while they were still here.  And, it was all good.  I’m going to give you a little of the lyric, so you get a better understanding of what I’m talking about. But, I have a feeling if you keep your ears on your radio, you will be hearing it very soon.

When I’m gone
Tell I laughed more than I shed tears
When I’m gone
Tell them I stared down all my fears
That I danced on the wire
And I walked through the fire
That I lived every moment
‘Till that moment retired
So my life goes on…goes on
When I’m gone

The press release that accompanied the audio we received today said, “After eight months of intense focus in the studio, Craig Morgan is excited to share his brand new single from his first full-length release in over three years.  “When I’m Gone,” the driving, poignantly biographical first single has just shipped to country radio and is already getting great feedback! The song will launch a new album project in 2016.  It marks a creative shift for Craig, as he teams up with Grammy-award winning producer Byron Gallimore (Tim McGraw, Faith Hill, Sugarland) for the first time in his expansive career, moving his music to new heights and further defining the distinctly authentic Craig Morgan sound..

Craig has one of the most intriguing stories in country music. The former EMT served over ten years in the Army before embarking on a successful country music career with more than fifteen Top 10 hits. Craig just debuted the sixth season of his TV show, Craig Morgan All Access Outdoors (Outdoor Channel). It chronicles his adventures on the road and across the globe.”

Those are our thoughts on Craig’s new single. Hope you will all get on the phone and call your radio station’s request line and ask for “When I’m Gone”. Time for to lean back, put my feet on the desk, and play it again.
