MargoI’ve heard only a few songs from Margo Price, and I’m ready to hear more.  We have a video for you from Margo, “Desperate and Depressed”.  You probably noticed radio starting to pay more attention to real country music with artists like Mo Pitney and William Michael Morgan.  We now have a female who is bringing that kind of music back to us.  I watched the video for “Desperate and Depressed” and, being an older fan, as I watched and listened, I remembered the first time I saw Loretta Lynn. That is what this young lady and her music reminded me of.

Margo 2I spent a some time on her website, and learned a little about Margo.  Her bio starts out by saying, “It only takes Margo Price about twenty-eight seconds to convince you that you’re hearing the arrival of a singular new talent.”  Maybe it takes some people 28 seconds, but it didn’t take me that long.  You will probably feel the same way when you watch the video a little later in this post.

Margo 3Margo is from Aledo, Illinois, a town of slightly over 3,500 people.  She dropped out of college and moved to Nashville in 2003.  She married a bass player and started a band (Buffalo Clover). The rest of her story we will let you read on her website. [Bio] It’s an interesting story, which takes us clear through to now – Spring 2016, when she will be releasing, promoting, and touring for her new single, “Midwest Farmer’s Daughter.” The song is about the hardships she experienced in her life –losing the family farm, the death of a child, problems she had with men and alcohol. The song just proves once again that the songs that tell a story are the best.

Margo 4We told you you were going to get a video, and here it is.  This is a live clip we have of rising country star Margo Price doing “Desperate and Depressed” live at Pandora’s Discovery Den at SXSW, last week.  Margo has got a lot of music out there, but I have a feeling no matter how many of her songs I listen to, this is going to remain one of my very favorite.

Margo has a lot coming up in the immediate future – you can catch her on Conan on Thursday, March 24, on TBS (11 ET/100CT). And, along with her label, Third Man Records, she has a special Midwest Farmer’s Daughter release show scheduled at Third Man in Nashville on April 7.  Tickets are on sale for that vent now, so if you are in the Nashville area, or can be there for the show, get your ticket information by clicking here.
