International music showcase producer and curator British Underground will partner with the Americana Music Association to host the fourth annual Bootleg BBQ in Nashville, during AmericanaFest the world’s biggest celebration of Americana music.

The Bootleg BBQ is an internationally recognized industry networking and music event, hosted at cool east Nashville record store, The Groove on Saturday 24 September. The event celebrates the UK‘s best musicians influenced by Americana and will feature performances from acts including Teddy Thompson & Kelly Jones and several artists who have been supported by the International Showcase Fund this year, including William The Conqueror, Yola Carter and Robert Vincent. The event will be hosted by Baylen Leonard – BBC Radio 2 broadcaster and presenter and US country music expert.

British Underground CEO Crispin Parry stated “Watching the Bootleg BBQ and the UK delegation grow and thrive at the AmericanaFest over the last three years has been very exciting.  UK acts now command a genuine audience of fans and industry taste-makers in the heart of the Nashville music scene and it is a privilege to host this micro-festival of British talent introducing our finest acts to the US music market.”

With the BBQ’s roots in Austin’s South by South West, the Bootleg BBQ moved to its current home at The Groove record store in East Nashville in 2013.  Produced in association with the AMA UK, it has since become one of the most significant events at AmericanaFest and is a chance to catch the best UK acts performing at the festival – the event has played a pivotal role in launching the careers of high profile musicians including Sturgil Simpson and champions UK Americana on the international stage.  The event celebrates a landmark year in UK Americana, which saw the introduction of an Americana chart within the UK Official Album Chart, further highlighting the significance of the genre and it’s increasing impact on the UK.

Danna Strong Director of Operations at the Americana Music Association stated, “British Underground’s Bootleg BBQ has become one of the most important international events at AmericanaFest, a key networking space for US music industry and artists to connect with UK delegates and it plays a huge role spotlighting UK Americana and the fantastic musical talent coming out of the UK at the moment. Don’t miss it!”

The International Showcase Fund, which is funded by key cultural institutions including Arts Council England, PRS For Music Foundation and British Underground is funding William The Conqueror, Yola Carter and Robert Vincent and offers vital support for artists and bands based in England who have been invited to play an international showcasing festival or conference. Joe Frankland, Senior Grants and Programmes Manager for PRS For Music Foundation, stated: “The Americana Music Festival and Conference brings together the best Americana artists in the world, music fans and music industry professionals looking for the next best thing. It’s integral to the international showcase calendar and British Underground’s annual Bootleg BBQ is the place to find the UK’s best emerging Americana artists. PRS for Music Foundation is proud to be supporting a few of the artists on the line-up this year. If you’re at the event this year, go check out what we have to offer.”

Teddy Thompson who will perform at the event, stated: It’s a pleasure to play the Bootleg BBQ during the AmericanaFest this year. We Brits know a thing or two about country and Americana music. We seem to understand the longing and the lonely. Maybe it’s the weather. But I’ve always found the British folk music is not that far away from Americana. Same roots. Kelly and I look forward to playing some songs while you eat your ribs.”

British Underground in partnership with AMA UK will also host an ‘Americana in the UK’ industry panel on Friday,  23 September, at 4 pm in Ballroom One at The Sheraton and an industry networking ‘High Tea’ @ Alley Taps on Thursday 22nd September as well as various other associated events (see full schedule below). The 17th Annual Americana Music Festival & Conference takes place on September 20-25 2016, gathering thousands of artists, fans, and industry professionals from all over the world in Nashville bringing together legendary artists, the next generation of rising stars, fans, and industry professionals for six days of music and education.

The Bootleg BBQ will follow a series of high profile international showcases hosted by British Underground this year, including a triumphant UK music showcase at the Rio Olympics this year, which saw Elf Kid and Nadia Rose perform for Team GB at British House in Rio.
