Multi format recording company Black Country Rock was launched by Shooter Jennings several years ago to produce and release his recordings and a variety of other artists and projects. Today, he announced the release of his new song, “Coming Home,” and the first cut from country star Julie Roberts in several years entitled “Why Can’t I Have You.” Both songs have been featured in the Netflix original series “The Ranch,” and both will be released digitally October 28, 2016.
Shooter’s track is a return to his country roots and is his first original music released since 2014’s Don’t Wait Up (For George.) The self-penned song is set on a simple production highlighted by acoustic guitar and wailing steel guitar.
Produced by Shooter and written by Danny Dawson, “Why Can’t I Have You” is Julie’s first release since her Good Wine & Bad Decisions album in 2013. Shooter is currently producing a full album of new music on Julie to be released in early 2017.
After her “Break Down Here” single cracked the Top 20, Julie went on to be featured in Rolling Stone, the New York Times, USA Today, Vanity Fair and Glamour. She recorded the “Good Morning America” theme song “Good To Go” and filmed commercial with the GMA cast, and ABC used the song & commercial for two years. She was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis at the height of an incredibly exciting and critical time in her career.
Julie felt that accepting and admitting to the world (and the music industry) would mean she would have to give up her dreams of singing country music. A major physical MS relapse in 2010 caused her to alter her perspective, accept her diagnosis and find a therapy to manage her disease. For the past six years, she has made it her goal to do all she can to connect with and raise awareness for organizations set up to help those live with MS. Not only has she continued to sing and perform, she also incorporates motivational speaking to MS patients everywhere.
2016 has seen Shooter Jennings release his Countach (for Giorgio) album – music written and inspired by electronic music pioneer Giorgio Moroder – with special guests Marilyn Manson, the late Steve Young, Brandi Carlile and and Lord British himself, computer game leviathan Richard Garriott. November 8 will see the release of his remastered genre-breaking, dystopian concept album Black Ribbons: The Ultimate Edition. The package will include double vinyl LP and CD copies of the record, previously unreleased tracks, a digital download including over six hours of additional content and a collectible card.
Since opening Black Country Rock in 2010, the label has released albums by Shooter Jennings, his parents Waylon Jennings and Jessi Colter, Billy Don Burns, Angry Grandpa and more. BCRMedia.com is also home to Shooter’s new audio series “Beyond The Black,” which delves into the deep, dark topics and tales that inspired his 2010 album Black Ribbons. The limited series is available for free at http://beyondthe.black
Shooter and Lukas Nelson sang “The Ranch” theme song, “Mamas Don’t Let Your Babies Grow Up To Be Cowboys.” The song was written by and originally recorded by their fathers, Waylon Jennings and Willie Nelson. The popular show stars Ashton Kutcher, Sam Elliot, Danny Masterson and Debra Winger.
