I guess I will always think of the Kentucky Headhunters as ‘country’ music-makers. With hits like “Dumas Walker,” “Walk Softly on This Heart of Mine,” and, “ Oh, Lonesome Me” quickly coming to mind when I hear their name, I suppose I will always think Kentucky Headhunters equals country music. But, they’ve certainly done a lot throughout their nearly 49 year history. And, that ‘lot’ has gained them a huge fan base in all genre. So this press release, telling us that they will be part of the Rock Legends Cruise really shouldn’t come as a surprise. Check out the press release below, telling us about their second trip on this great cruise.
[Press Release] The Kentucky Headhunters have been taking fans on a musical adventure for five decades, with no signs of slowing down in 2017. The band is taking their energetic and unruly live show off-shore on this year’s SOLD OUT Rock Legends Cruise in support of their brand-new album On Safari.

“It feels great to be returning to the Rock Legends Cruise. There’s no thrill quite like playing alongside some of the iconic bands of the 70s and 80s that influenced our career,” said Richard Young of The Kentucky Headhunters. “We’re proud to be a part of this not only because of these bands we are such fans of, but also because the proceeds of the cruise will benefit a great cause – the Native American Heritage Association.”
Rock music fans lucky enough to have snagged tickets will see several performances from the Headhunters and will likely hear iconic favorites like “Walk Softly on This Heart of Mine” and “Dumas Walker” as well exciting new songs from On Safari such as “Beaver Creek Mansion,” “Deep South Blues Again” and “God Loves A Rolling Stone.” On Safari features 10 original songs as well as covers of Charlie Daniels’ “Way Down Yonder” and Alice Cooper’s “Caught In A Dream.” On Safari is a Plowboy Records/Practice House Records joint venture and is available here.
About The Kentucky Headhunters: Known as “Southern Rock Royalty” and the “great American rock ‘n’ roll band,” The Kentucky Headhunters have maintained a longevity most acts can only dream about. With a GRAMMY® Award, two Top 10 charting albums, four consecutive Top 40 hits and countless other honors, The “Heads” are credited for creating a unique blend of honky-tonk, blues, and southern rock that appeals to the toughest music critics and listeners of all kinds. Getting their start in 1968, brothers Fred and Richard Young and cousins Greg Martin and Anthony Kenney, from Edmonton, Kentucky, formed Itchy Brother, which later morphed into The Kentucky Headhunters after Kenney departed and Doug Phelps joined the band. Their first album, Pickin’ On Nashville, (1989), surprised the world when it became a major success, selling over two million copies. Their 2015 release Meet Me in Bluesland, included the last vocals ever recorded of the late, great pianist Johnnie Johnson — Rock N Roll Hall of Famer and legendary keyboardist for Chuck Berry. The album reached the No. 1 spot on the Billboard Blues Album chart the week of its debut. It also garnered top placement on the Billboard Americana Chart. The band’s Fall 2016 release On Safari is a southern rock album that tips the hat to family and the southern way of life. The Kentucky Headhunters still tour extensively throughout the United States and Canada, and recently completed their first-ever European tour.
