Black Sheep Recording artist Michael Austincarves up a rich slice of Americana in his brand new single, “Shotgun Seat,” set for release and available at all streaming outlets today.

The nostalgia-packed track opens with fond memories of days past that are sure to bring a knowing smile like playing kick the can, double dog dares, prank calls and Atari. It celebrates the simple joys of country living where porch swings, lemonade, cane poles, and county fairs were a part of everydaylife. The rolling midtempo also namechecks some old-school favorites and guilty pleasures as well including John Mellencamp’s “Hurts So Good,” Bon Jovi’s “Shot Through The Heart,” Journey’s “Don’t Stop Believin,” Tom Petty’s “Free Fallin’,” Aerosmith’s “Walk This Way,” and other vintage hits.

“’Shotgun Seat’ is about remembering the fun and easy times, where your biggest concern was where you were going to hang out on a Friday or Saturday night,” said Austin of the heartwarming new song. ”The excitement of all of your firsts! Your first kiss, first love, first car, first everything… That stream of positive energy just when you need it the most!”

Produced by Jimmy Ritchey, Austin co-wrote the memory-filled tune with Eric Halbig. Busy on the road touring this summer, the former contestant of The Voice is gearing up for  dates beginning in July with Ted Nugent on his Detroit Muscle Tour.
