“Forever Ago” is a song about a woman being abandoned by someone she thought would love her forever. The song is an illustration of that one heartbreak that leaves a scar and still stings whenever you think about it. Sofia Claire has been through heartbreak, whether it was losing a loved one, an ex or even her first horse. No matter what it was, it hurt to lose something she loved and expected to love forever. The lyrics in the song are very descriptive and are intended to create a picture in the listener’s mind of the setting, time and characters. When the song was being created, the writers had all just finished watching the TV series 1883, and were so inspired by the characters and setting. When they imagined the story of “Forever Ago,” they imagined the pioneer days of the old west where women weren’t sure if they’d ever see their husbands again each time they left. They really wanted the instrumentation in the song to reflect that feeling. Sofia Claire would love for listeners to take away the heartbreaking, yet nostalgic feeling of “Forever Ago.”

“Recording this song felt like second nature for me,” explained Sofia Claire. “The descriptive lyrics allowed me to use my voice as a tool to paint a vivid picture of the story. With Michael’s expert guidance in the studio, I was able to fully immerse myself in the song and do my best to convey its emotional depth with authenticity.”

Producer and Co-writer Michael Wilkes shared, “Really enjoyed writing this song with Sofia Claire and Steve Bogard! And also honored to have produced it as well. I think we captured a moment, a mood and an honest emotion.”

“…I’d seen your face in a desert sunrise
Some other place, some other time
Every kiss every touch was a sweet déjá vu
Like a midnight rider you appeared, felt like I’d love you a
Thousand years
Every night I close my eyes I’m still seeing you

Like the promise of a lifetime coming true

You said you’d love me forever, now you’re already gone
I guess maybe forever doesn’t really last that long
They say in time I’ll get over
But time is movin’ slow
‘Cause it feels like you left me forever, forever ago…”

The new song was co-written by Sofia Claire, Michael Wilkes and Steve Bogard. It was produced and engineered by Michael Wilkes and mastered by Mike Monseur with mixing by Jonathan Roye. Session musicians included Michael Wilkes (acoustic guitar, bass, keys, drum programming), Jenee Fleenor (fiddle) and Scott Murray (steel guitar).
