Logan Ledger has released a new performance video for his latest single ‘All The Wine In California’.  The video premiered with Holler who called the song “a full-bodied blend of early 70s crooning, cosmic Californian country-rock and Bakersfield guitar licks.”

Taken from his forthcoming album Golden State, which is coming out September 8th via Rounder Records, the track is a reflection on love lost and despite the melancholic theme, the driving rhythms and uplifting harmonies create a comfort that radiates through.

“On one level it’s a song about a sadness so deep that even alcohol can’t make you forget,” says Ledger. “But on another level the wine could represent all the pleasures of life—all the things we do to distract ourselves that never manage to erase our pain.

“When I was a kid I was borderline obsessed with Clarence White, who was, among other things, the lead guitar player in the Byrds and the co-inventor of the b-bender. Even before I finished writing this song with my good friends Beau and Noah, I knew that it needed to include a little homage of sorts. And I’m thrilled that I got the chance to sneak in a little b-bender guitar solo with some Clarencian motifs the real heads might recognise.”

The track follows the release of ‘There Goes My Mind’ with its lively country-rock groove in which Ledger looks inward to examine his own limitations, and the title track ‘Golden State’, which centered on a soulful vocal performance telegraphs both weariness and hope.

A paean to California, Golden State is steeped in so many of the ineffable qualities embodied by California: wild-eyed idealism, uneasy unpredictability, the infinite promise of rebirth and renewal. In keeping with the refined ingenuity first revealed on his T Bone Burnett-produced self-titled debut, the Bay Area-raised, Nashville-based musician also leans into California’s legacy of restless reinvention, continually cross-pollinating his vast reservoir of influences to create entirely unexpected musical idioms (including, at one point, a glorious collision of British folk and rowdy surf rock).

The album was mainly recorded live at the famed Sunset Sound in Los Angeles and Ledger working with musicians like Cage The Elephant guitarist Nick Bockrath, pedal-steel player Russ Pahl (Sturgill Simpson, Tyler Childers), Shooter Jennings’s longtime bassist Ted Russell Kamp and drummer Jamie Douglass, and Jennings himself (on piano, Wurlitzer, organ, and celeste), dreaming up a lush and spirited sound partly inspired by the California country-rock scene of the late-’60s and early-’70s.

Anchored in his captivating baritone and poetic lyricism on loss, despair and the search for transcendence, Golden State ultimately matches Ledger’s rich sense of history with an unfettered originality, arriving at a body of work both elegantly composed and endlessly surprising.
