What a fun Independence Day we had in Northeast Tennessee. Mo Pitney was in town to headline our 33rd annual Pepsi Independence Day Celebration on the grounds at Freedom Hall in Johnson City, Tenn. Everyone looks forward to this fireworks display every year. And, Pepsi always does a great job filling the afternoon with some of the best country and bluegrass artists around.
Jimbo Whaley and Greenbriar, a bluegrass band from Sevierville, Tenn., along with Nashville recording artist and songwriter, Brinley Addington, opened for Mo. (We will get more posted about Brinley later, but we really wanted to let you know what’s been going on with Mo.)
He is working on new music, and we are all hoping that we will soon be hearing that on country radio. Still love that our local radio stations continue to play “Country” and “Clean Up on Aisle Five”; and, we even heard “A Boy and a Girl Thing” on an area station recently. In addition to being a great singer/songwriter, Mo has an awesome personality. He took time to talk to fans before the show, and even spent time at his merch table after the show making sure all fans who wanted a photo and autogrpah were able to get one.
During his show on Wednesday, Mo did sing a number of songs that he plans on putting on the next album, and one of those will be selected as his new single. We got to hear the songs we know from the radio, as well as some of our favorites from his album, “Behind This Guitar”.
This was my first time to see Mo live. I’m hoping it won’t be the last. He has so much energy, and, really seems to have a good time entertaining his audience. He had a great group of musicians on stage with him, and I already know I need to apologize for the spellings of these names. Hope I have these names close. On stage with Mo, making the great music on July 4, were Lou Timmey, guitar; Blake Pitney, bass; Dave Savage, drums; Dan Gallis, Steel guitar; and Holly Pitney, guitar.
Keep up with all the latest news about Mo by visiting his website. Check out his Facebook page, and follow hiim on Twitter @MoPitney. He has a number of other social media links listed on his website, too, so be sure to have a look at those as well.
Going to close this one with a few more pictures from wednesday’s event, and a quick thank you to the sponsors who made this possible. Sponsors of this great day are Pepsi, Food City, Champion Chevrolet, Foster Signs, Precision Electric, Courtyard, The Johnson City Press and WXBQ 96.9 FM. (First photo is Mo, wife Emily, and daughter Nadine. Other photos will be band members, Mo with fans, and others from the show).
