USE 1

On Wednesday night, Aug. 22, I went to my first LANCO show.  I don’t mind admitting that I didn’t know a lot about this group when I went.  Of course I knew “Born to Love You” and “Greatest Love Story” from the radio. I’ve visited their website, and I listened to them on Spotify.  But that was pretty much the extent of my knowledge where LANCO is concerned. Of course the show included songs like “So Long”, “We Do”, “Troublemaker”, and “Singing at the Stars”, and other songs I’ve been enjoying since I first became familiar with the group. But, like I said, this was my first LANCO concert, so I really didn’t know what to expect.  I do want to tell you all that if you ever have the chance to see them live, don’t let that opportunity pass you by.

Any of our readers who are as old as I am, and have seen Ray Price, Eddy Arnold, George Jones and Don Williams on stage, need to keep in mind that a LANCO show is not that.  You can forget about a singer, a guitar and a bar stool, and prepare yourself for a fast-moving, high-energy show where wanting to jump up and dance is a natural part of the evening.  I will have to admit that at more than one point the amateur photographer part of me wanted to yell out, “stand still, I’m trying to get a picture here”.  But, I was actually having too much fun to even mind the challenge all that activity created in getting a good picture.

The band broke away from their own music to cover some of our older favorites.  We heard Alabama’s “Dixieland Delight” and “Song of the South”, John Michael Montgomery’s “Grundy County Auction”, and even little bit of “Rocky Top”.  They picked good songs to cover, and they did a great job with them.

DSCN4862Band members Tripp Howell, Brandon Lancaster, Eric Steedly, Jared Hampton and Chandler Baldwin were all nice enough to come out to the WXBQ tent for an on-air, preshow interview with Marc Tragler.

When you hear LANCO it is hard to think of them as a lead singer fronting a band.  When you see them live, you still don’t think of them that way.  They are five very talented musicians/vocalists who work together as if they have been doing it forever.  This was a fun-filled night that is going to stay with all of us for a very long time. I have to say it again…when the opportunity to see LANCO live comes your direction, do it!

Going to close this out with a few more photos from Wednesday night’s great LANCO concert at our Appalachian Fair in Gray, Tenn.
