LeeGrammy-winning country music artist Lee Greenwood, along with his iconic and patriotic hit song “God Bless the USA,” will be featured on the latest edition of NPR’s American Anthem series. Greenwood’s interview with NPR’s Don Gonyea aired on Tuesday, September 11 at 5:50 & 7:50 am ET / 6:50 & 8:50 am CT, during NPR’s Morning Edition.

“God Bless the USA” is one of fifty songs that were chosen by NPR to be featured in their American Anthems series. The series focuses on the stories behind the songs, and how they “Challenge, Unite and Celebrates” our American cultural experience throughout history. Making it’s debut on July 4, the series has featured a variety of artists and songs which span the genre gamut; including Madonna’s “Like A Virgin,” The White Stripes’ “Seven Nation Army,” Kelly Clarkson’s “Since U Been Gone,” Twisted Sister’s “We’re Not Gonna Take It,” Martha Reeves & The Vandellas’ “Dancing In The Streets,” and “The Star Spangled Banner.”

“As I stated in my song, ‘God Bless the USA,’ ‘There ain’t no doubt I love this land.’ My love of the land came from being raised on a farm in California and singing for USO shows while I was still in high school,” Greenwood said in a recent statement on the song’s origin. “I’m honored this song is still being shared today, and more importantly, being recognized as a song which unites, because that is exactly the reason why I wrote it.”
