We received an e-mail from Joanna DeGrace.  She shared her first single, “Hourglass” She included a link to the song, and after hearing it – we knew we had to tell our readers what they have to look forward to.  The pre-release date for “Hourglass” was April 1 on Apple Music. It will be released all platforms April 15th.

“I actually wrote Hourglass 8 years ago amidst an existential crisis,” Joanna said. “Working as a nurse, my life was brought into a new focus in 2020 after being reassigned to a hot zone to treat sick and dying patients during the pandemic, which gave me the courage and motivation to finally release my music, starting with my first single Hourglass.

“Following this wake-up call to follow my dreams as a musician, I salvaged the track from my old computer before it died altogether, proceeded to record the missing drums, mix and master the track, all via virtual collaborations, during days off from amidst the height of the lockdown in Montreal,” she added.

Joanna tells us, “Hourglass shares meaningful & hopeful lyrics for fans of Taylor Swift, Kacey Musgraves, The Civil Wars and Noah Gundersen.”

We are pleased that she send along a listening listening link so we could preview the song for this article. The song is well-written, beautifully sung, and accompanied by a memorable melody.  It is thought-provoking, and in its own way, uplifting.   Here’s a little idea of what you’ll be hearing.  I don’t think it will take you long to put the pieces of this puzzle in order enough to make you realize you are all in for a great treat with “Hourglass”.  Every word, every line, draws you in, and you wait to hear more.  “I can see the beauty there … ”  “If life is a mystery, let’s embrace the discovery….”   On her website, she shares this line,  “Well, if life is an hourglass, and all things should come to pass, let’s hld on to what we have, even if it won’t last.”

The Bio on her website (quoted below) says:

“Joanna is a Montreal nurse, wellness coach and songwriter, releasing her first single Hourglass on April 15th 2022.

“Joanna wrote Hourglass 8 years ago amidst an existential crisis.  Her priorities were brought into a new focus in 2020 after being reassigned to a hot zone to treat sick and dying patients during the pandemic, which gave her the courage and motivation to finally release her music.

“Following this wake-up call to follow her dreams as a musician, she salvaged tracks from her old computer on its last legs, and collaborated virtually with local musicians for missing drums, mixing and mastering her tracks during her days off amidst the lockdown in Montreal.

“Her lyrics are  intimate and vulnerable with edge, and her style is folk-Americana, with influences from Kacey Musgraves, Taylor Swift, The Civil Wars and Noah Gundersen.

“She has been singing since her early days in church choir, in high school musicals, in a rock band as a young adult and in most recent years as an alto in Carol Bernard’s Montreal Gospel Choir.”

There is a place at the bottom of her website where you can sign up for e-mail updates from Joanna.  In addition to her website, be sure to check out her social media links:  Instagram,  and Facebook,  I believe we are looking at an artist with a bright future.  We think you will agree.
