Eric Halbig, Ty Herndon, Darryl Worley. Heritage Hall, Mountain City, Tenn.

Country recording artists Ty Herndon and Darryl Worley gave the Heritage Hall audience an outstanding acoustic performance last night in Mountain City, Tenn.

It has been a very long time since I saw Ty on stage.  In fact, 10 years have gone by since I last sat in the audience of a Ty Herndon concert.  It was concert presented by the Unicoi County Tennessee Chamber of Commerce, and was in May of 2012.  We had posted an article about that show that you can read by clicking here.

The first time I saw Darryl on stage was at our Appalachian Fair in Gray, Tenn. That was back in 2005.  In 2016, I had the pleasure of being on The Santa Train when Darryl, his wife and daughter were all on board to help distribute toys and coats to children in the coal mining region of Kentucky and Virginia.  If you aren’t familiar with The Santa Train, I hope you will have a look at the article about Darryl’s trip on the train.  You can read that by clicking here.

This concert was organized by Tennessee State Representative Scotty Campbell (Republican Mountain City. District 3. Johnson, and part of Carter and Sullivan Counties). Other county and state officials attending included Tennessee State Senator Jon Lundberg (Republican Bristol. District 4. Johnson, Carter and Sullivan Counties).

Darryl Worley, Mayor Glenn Jacobs (Knox County, Tenn.) and Ty Herndon

Knox County Mayor Glen Jacobs, also attended the July 1 event.  I’m sure all of our readers who are also WWE fans will remember him as former WWE Champion Glenn “Kane” Jacobs.

Cameron Clawson

Cameron Clawson, singer/musician, from Johnson County opened the show for Ty and Darryl. The was the first I had heard about Cameron, or seen him perform. We learned that Cameron has been entertaining in that area for a while now. He had a lot of fans in the seats last night, and he did a great acoustic set.

Ty and Darryl were there to share the stage.  Neither trying to take over, but happily sharing the time and making sure each of them got to present songs and stories, and humor. Ty sang songs like “Man Holding On (To a Woman Letting Go)’, “Living In a Moment”, and “Hands of a Working Man”.  I was a little disappointed that he didn’t do “What Mattered Most”, but since I have the CD, I know I can put that one on and hear it whenever I want.  He had a great audience response to his new single, “Till You Get There”.

Much of his reminiscing and his stories included his Mom.  Ty made everyone listening want to sit across the kitchen table from Mom, drink a big ole glass of iced tea, and hear more stories about her son. Ty is a good storyteller, a bit of a comedian, and an all-around awesome talent.

With a program that included “Sounds Like Life”, “I Miss My Friend,” and “Have You Forgotten”, Darryl threw in some stories about his career, his gardening skills, his family, and the fact that technology is not one of his strong points. Darryl and Ty made great stage partners.  They both joke, they both tell stories, they sing, they both write songs, they both know how to keep their audience listening to every word, laughing, and even singing along.

Ty Herndon and Darryl Worley definitely know how to get the most out of a small venue. Heritage Hall is the kind of venue where every seat is close to the stage.  This was a country music show.  It was not a light show with a lot of moving scenery, staircases in the middle of the stage, and huge speakers and amplifiers that tried to blow you out of the room.  It was a great show.  Ty Herndon and Darryl Worley are not done yet.  And, Fans are definitely ready for whatever is coming next.

I think the best way to close out this article is with more photos from last nights performance.  It was a great show, and everyone who attended had a great time. Thank you Rep. Scotty Campbell for bringing this kind of talent to Mountain City, Tenn.
