A timeless Country-Rock band for the modern era, A Thousand Horses have traveled countless miles since their debut single, “Smoke,” rocketed to No. 1 in 2015. The musicians reflect upon that remarkable journey — and look forward to what’s next — with their newest album, BROKEN HEARTLAND.

Released today (8/26), BROKEN HEARTLAND adds new dimension to a band once hailed by Rolling Stone as “country music’s new Lynyrd Skynyrd.” It’s a muscular mix of Roadhouse Rock & Roll, Country Drawl, and Southern Soul, performed by four longtime friends who write their own songs, play their own instruments, and call their own shots. This time around, they’re even releasing the album on their own label, Highway Sound Records. A Thousand Horses are truly unfenced, and BROKEN HEARTLAND — with its emphasis on southern storytelling, anthemic melodies, and amplified guitars — shows the full reach of their abilities.

LISTEN TO BROKEN HEARTLAND

We are very excited for BROKEN HEARTLAND, our sophomore full-length album and first release on our label, Highway Sound Records,” says frontman Michael Hobby, who teamed up with his three bandmates — bassist Graham DeLoach and dual guitarists Bill Satcher and Zach Brown — to record the new album. “Behind these 10 songs are one million miles traveled, a thousand shows played, and a whole lot of life lived. We are so happy to be able to share this album with our fans and can’t wait to see everyone out on the road!”

The road has always been kind to A Thousand Horses. Like their heroes, they’ve built their audience the old-school way: by writing classic songs and hitting the highway, performing those songs night after night to enthusiastic crowds. Fittingly, the band will support BROKEN HEARTLAND‘s release with a handful of high-profile tour dates, including a return to Country music’s most hallowed stage — the Grand Ole Opry — tomorrow (8/27). One month later, they’ll head to Lawrenceville, GA, to serve as hosts and headliners of their very own Southern Wilds Festival.

Previously called Simple Southernality — a name that nodded to A Thousand Horses’ debut album, the Top 5 smash SOUTHERNALITY — Southern Wilds Festival was co-founded by bandmate Brown. It’s a distinctive festival rooted not only in great music, but also community. In other words, it’s a festival that reflects A Thousand Horses’ own values, as well as the values of fellow festival performers like Anderson East and Kidd GCheck out the details here.

“We’re excited to be hosting the Southern Wilds Festival again this year!” enthuses Brown. “It’s always a special show for us, and this year we’re pumped to be playing songs from the new album. It’s going to be bigger and better than ever!”

To celebrate the release, the group dropped the official music video for their “When I Hear Your Name” written by the enitre band (Bill Satcher, Michael Hobby, Zachary Stephen Brown, Graham DeLoach) and Corey Crowder. Check it out below.

ABOUT A THOUSAND HORSES:A Thousand Horses made history in June 2015, when the band’s “Smoke” became the first debut single for a group to reach No. 1 on the Country Airplay charts in the 2010s. The song went PLATINUM, with the follow-up hit “(This Ain’t No) Drunk Dial” also cracking Top 40 success. Both singles appeared on their debut album, SOUTHERNALITY, which reached No. 3 on Billboard’s Top Country Albums chart. Over the years that followed, bandmates Michael Hobby, Bill Satcher, Zach Brown, and Graham DeLoach found similar success on the road, touring the country with acts like Jason Aldean and Lynyrd Skynyrd. Reclaiming their independence in 2022, A Thousand Horses has now launched a new chapter of their acclaimed career with releases “Broken Heartland” and “Another Mile” on their own newly announced label, Highway Sound Records. Continuing to showcase their signature blend of Country music and American Rock & Roll, A Thousand Horses’ highly anticipated sophomore album BROKEN HEARTLAND is out now.
