Award-winning singer-songwriter Nicole Witt is dropping a new single called “Breathe Mama” off her upcoming EP, Clear, released just before Mother’s Day and available everywhere now.

Co-written with longtime friend and fellow singer-songwriter, Cheley Tackett, “Breathe Mama” is a particularly warm and authentic song written about Witt’s 17-year-old daughter, Ashlyn, as she approaches her high school graduation. Witt’s bittersweet lyrics look back on the beautiful journey of watching her little one grow up and reflect a mother learning how to let go and allow for her daughter’s self-exploration. While the song is deeply personal and written from the one-of-a-kind perspective of a mother, any parent can relate to the unwavering love and special bond Witt touches on throughout “Breathe Mama.” Listen here.

Breathe Mama
You step in, you can’t stop time
You see mama
She’s got your stubborn and her daddy’s eyes.
She’s free just like you want her to be.
Oh she’s free just like you prayed she would be.

Says Witt, “‘Breathe Mama’ is a song about a free-spirited little girl who one day becomes a kind, free-spirited, beautiful, talented young adult. Her mama loves her like crazy in all stages of her life and has to work through letting go now even though she knows it’s time. It sounds like an easy song to write and sing until you write it about your own daughter.”

“Ashlyn has been a part of this project from day one. She is the director and producer of all the videos for this record. Getting to work with her (@filmedbycash) on Clear is a collaboration that I will never forget,” Witt adds. “There are no words that could ever really explain this experience. She’s graduating in 2 weeks and on her way to college in the fall to study film. I could not be more proud or love her any more than I do.”

The accompanying music video filmed by Nicole’s daughter, Ashlyn will be released on May 26. Witt has been releasing new music all year, most recently “Bourbon,” along with an official music video that is currently in CMT Music’s coveted 12 Pack Countdown and will soon be in rotation on The Country Network. She is fresh off her own European headlining tour earlier this year and is continuing to tour the U.S. solo and with her group, the Six One Five Collective.
