SINGLE ART BY ZACK KNUDSEN

Now more than 10 years into his Nashville recording career, Country-Soul singer Drake White has learned first hand that a rolling stone gathers no moss – but it comes at a price. With his new single, “Spirit,” he tributes those with a rambling heart, for better or worse.

A swaying traveler’s anthem with a hard-won sense of inner peace, “Spirit” was co-written by White with Leslie Satcher and Phil Pence, arriving today (6/30) as the first taste of an upcoming EP

Co-produced by Matthew Ridenour and White himself, the tune taps a deep well of experience and features the easy-going sound of an acoustic-Soul ballad. But with White’s aching vocal leading a soft-touch mix of emotive slide guitar and homesick fiddle, it finds a man coming to terms with the blessing that is also his curse.

Called to the open highway and the mysteries around each bend, White sings that he’ll soon ride off again – like a lonesome cowboy chasing the sun. “When I get lost in the wheels, you go on and say goodbye / I can’t seem to settle down (lord), so I don’t even try,” the chorus goes.

No stranger to the traveling life he depicts, “Spirit” arrives as White continues to build his one-of-a-kind Country-Soul following – especially in the UK and beyond.

The heart-rending new track premiered on the UK’s BBC Radio Thursday night (6/29), and comes hot on the heels of White’s headlining tour through Northern Ireland, Ireland, Scotland and England – eight dates which wrapped up June 25 with a show in Cambridge.

After spending last year headlining THE OPTIMYSTIC TOUR in triumphant celebration of his 2022 studio album return, THE OPTIMYSTIC, White followed up with the sugar-sweet “Pound Cake” in December, and now looks ahead with more to come in 2023.

He’ll spend the rest of the summer on tour from coast to coast, and more information about new music will be announced soon. Check White’s website for his full tour itinerary

ABOUT DRAKE WHITE:
Drake White grew up singing in his church’s youth choir in Alabama before becoming one of Country music’s most spirited innovators, earning four Top 40 hits and traveling the country on multiple nationwide tours. His 2013 debut single “Simple Life” introduced his brand of Country Soul, which he cemented with 2016 debut album SPARK followed by the EPs ‘Pieces’ and ‘Stars.’ In August 2019, he collapsed on stage due to a hemorrhagic stroke, and doctors told him he might never perform again. After undergoing a series of operations to repair his Arteriovenous Malformation (AVM) and months of physiotherapy, White has proved them wrong, returning to the road to spread his incredible positivity to his fans. In 2022 he embarked on his headline THE OPTIMYSTIC TOUR, which spanned dates in the US and the UK. His latest album, THE OPTIMYSTIC, is an inspiring glimpse into the journey he has taken over the past few years, and the “extremely accomplished album” (American Songwriter) delivers a “powerful message” (Nashville Lifestyles) via White’s “smooth brand of country-soul” (Billboard). White has received accolades including Rolling Stone’s 10 Country Artists You Need to Know, The Grammy’s Artist of Tomorrow and the British CMA Awards’ International Song of the Year and has shared the bill with Country music superstars like Luke Bryan, Eric Church and Zac Brown Band.
