EDITOR’S NOTE: The following post was edited on Wednesday, Sept. 6, 2023, and now includes the names of those very talented band members who shared the stage with Chayce. thanks to Nina Kincade for providing this information. \
The 97th annual Appalachian Fair was Monday, Aug. 21-Saturday, Aug. 26, 2023, at the Fairgrounds in Gray, Tenn. Fair attendees always know in advance that they are in for a week filled with farm animals, wildlife exhibits, competitions for fruit and vegetable growers, arts and crafts folks, photographers, artists, buildings full of local vendors, pageants, and of course entertainment! The lineup this year was one that excited every country music fan in the region.
Today’s article belongs to Chayce Beckham. American Idol was, for most of us, our introduction to Chayce. But I believe the American Idol stage was merely the launching pad for an artist who is about to take off, leave that pad, and head straight to the top. If you only know Chayce from that television appearance, you need to have another look. If you are working on your ‘bucket list’, you just have to add a Chayce Beckham Concert near the top of that list. Until you see Chayce on stage, you just don’t know the caliber of entertainer he is. American Idol opened the door, and many new fans ran in.
Getting ready to perform on a sunny, humid, 90-degree day in East Tennessee isn’t the easiest thing to do. I am sure he would have been much more comfortable in one of the air conditioned spaces at the Fairgrounds. But Chayce not only took the time to come out to the WXBQ Radio Tent for an interview with on-air personalities , Marcus Brooks and Nikki Thomas, but he also made time for his fans. And he did a Meet & Greet before his show, which everyone appreciated.
The Main Stage sponsor for Thursday night was West Hills Tractor, Jonesborough. The Appalachian Fair could not bring us the entertainment they do without the support of both 96.9 WXBQ and local sponsors. Country’s Chatter encourages area residents to support these great sponsors, who are always supportive in bringing the best entertainment to our region.
We are all familiar with his chart-climbing single “23”, so it wasn’t a surprise that he closed his set with that song. Leading up to that song, we were entertained with songs that I am sure are now among our favorites. I have a few that I like more than the others, but there are none that I don’t like at all. “Keeping Me Up All Night” is definitely among my new favorite Chayce Beckham songs. “Talk to Me”, “”Till I Die”, and “Diamond In My Pocket” reminded me that I’m a little sentimental, and a bit of a romantic. Without question, my favorite Chayce Beckham song is one you haven’t heard yet, unless you’ve been to a show. It is called “Old Fashioned”. I hope you will get to hear it soon – I believe it should be his next radio release, following “Little Less Lonely”, which is out now.
Chayce Beckham was great on stage. Obviously enjoying the interaction with his fans and his band. Band Members with Chayce were Mike Smith, drums; Justin Wantz; Lyons Graham, bass; Brandon Helsom, PM/FOH. A bunch of talent on the stage for this concert! Every one of them was fun to watch and made for some awesome listening. [Again, Thank You Nina Kincade for providing their names for inclusion in this article.]
