Listen // Watch: “What She’s Doing Now”

Denitia, the acclaimed Texas native, current Nashville resident, and rising star in Americana, unveils a heartfelt tribute to country music legend Garth Brooks with her soul-gripping rendition of “What She’s Doing Now.” Celebrating the 32nd anniversary of this classic, Denitia, and her angelic vocals, breathe new life and perspective into a song that has stood the test of time.

“I found endless inspiration for my album Highways in the country music of the ’80s and ’90s,” Denitia shares, “I remembered this particular song vividly from when I was growing up; coming back to it as an adult, I felt this whole new relationship to it – having had the bittersweet fortune of loving and losing many times. It fits right in with the reflective landscape of Highways – wondering about the past while moving ahead. It continues to amaze me how much a memory can feel tangible, and no matter how many years you put between yourself and another person, it can all feel as real as today. With this song, I pay homage to Garth Brooks, who has been such an inspiration to me and this narrative of pining love that fits right in with the stories I tell on Highways.

Denitia’s vocals and performance of “What She’s Doing Now” capture the essence of the original while infusing it with her own unique style and emotional depth. The track will resonate with fans both old and new, as Denitia’s interpretation pays tribute to the timeless storytelling that defines classic country music.

The single is now available on all major streaming platforms. Fans and music enthusiasts alike can follow Denitia on social media for updates and exclusive content.

About Denitia

Texas-born and Nashville-based artist Denitia grew up in small refinery towns outside Houston, made her way to Nashville for college, then moved to Brooklyn for a decade. But she found her way home — to country music, her gold standard for songwriting, and back to Nashville — with her 2022 album, Highways, an “alt-country ramble” through emotion, time, and place that is “deeply tuneful, light on its feet, and shot through with melancholy” (Stereogum).

Denitia was named an Artist to Watch by NPR after earning one of five spots in the Black Opry and WXPN’s 2023 residency, is a member of Rissi Palmer’s Color Me Country Class of 2023, and is one of three artists in CMT and mtheory’s 2023 Equal Access cohort. She was also a showcasing artist at AmericanaFest 2023, where she played seven shows in five days, and has toured extensively with the Black Opry Revue; been invited to perform at the National Museum of African American Music and the Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum in Nashville; and shared stages with Jason Isbell, Amythyst Kiah, Wendy Moten, and Joy Oladokun, among other artists. Denitia’s music has been featured in the 2022 films Nanny and The Invitation, as well as in the series Better Things (FX), Broad City (Comedy Central), Dear White People (Netflix), Shrinking (Apple TV+), and The Terminal List (Amazon).
