Supergroup Texas Hill announced today their highly anticipated sophomore album, Soldiers, available September 13 via Queue Records. The group enlisted an all-star cast of musicians and recorded the project in the birthplace of Southern Soul — Muscle Shoals, Alabama. Showcasing the musicality the band has always been grounded in, the project includes 11 tracks – from the upbeat, driving opener “Dust and Chrome” to the somber closer “Weight of the World,” elements of Soul, Blues, Gospel, Country and Southern Rock are intentionally woven into the fabric of every song.

“Of all the things that can be said about the new record, the thing that comes to mind most to me is the way that we made it,” said Texas Hill member Casey James. “Making sure we had the right folks in the studio, and the right material to record, and then just letting the music lead us. We cut this record live for the most part. We didn’t use the modern technology available to ‘fix’ anything. We just did our best and let it fly. We didn’t eliminate the humanity from it. We aren’t perfect machines and we make mistakes. Those imperfections are my favorite part. It was a blast to record knowing that the moment would be captured and unchanged. I think most listeners can feel that magic and it brings a joy that isn’t there otherwise.”
“This project is evidence of the kind of musicians we are,” added member Adam Wakefield. “We’re soldiers. The title track and concept of the album as a whole makes a statement and is a testament to the musicality you have to be grounded in to make a record like this. It’s real music to the core, and I’m glad we got to capture some magic that will live on beyond the life of the band.”
Soldiers will mark the band’s final album, as current members Casey James and Adam Wakefield plan to dive back into their individual solo careers in 2025. “Texas Hill will always hold a special place in my heart,” says Casey James. “I’m so thankful for the music that has been made, and the friends and fans that I’ve gained along the way. It’s been a journey that I’m thankful for, and it has strengthened me as a musician and on a personal level. I’m looking forward to playing some killer shows with the band as we release this final record, and of course excited to get back to work on my own music outside of Texas Hill.”
Yesterday (6/16), the group made their Who Stage debut at the 2024 Bonnaroo Music & Arts Festival, performing songs from their highly successful 2021 album Heaven Down Here, as well as new tunes from the upcoming Soldiers.
