Any Drew Parker fans out there??? Stupid question, I know. I’m guessing all of our readers answered “yes”. That said, I am so sorry all of our readers aren’t within driving distance to Gray, Tennessee. If you are, you saw a fantastic show on Thursday night, Aug. 22 at the Appalachian Fair.
To start off with, let me tell you we had a ‘two for one’ event. I just told you about Tyler Braden. Tyler opened for Drew Parker on the Main Stage that night. After sitting through Tyler’s show, you can’t help but wonder if it can get any better than this. Or maybe you are just hoping the second show of the night will be as good as the first. You can stop wondering. It was. Two different artists, two different vocal styles, two set lists full of great songs, and two awesome bands. We had a real treat!
Like Tyler, Drew also came out for the on-air interview with Marcus Brooks from 96.9 WXBQ (remember, you can all listen to this great radio station at www.wxbq.com. And, I need to mention this great radio station has won ACM and CMA Awards for Best Radio Station, and Best Personalities). Drew was already dressed for his show, and in addition to that great cowboy hat, he had one of the biggest smiles you can imagine. He did a meet and greet before his show, and was just so friendly, and easy to talk to .
He opened his show with “Better on A Boat” and jumped right into “Little Miss Saturday Night”, Of course we heard “While You’re Gone” and “Raised Up Right”. I was glad he sang “Forever After All”. Luke Combs made the song famous, but a lot of people don’t know it was actually written by Drew Parker and Rob Williford. Such a beautiful song. It also gave the audience a chance to sit a minute, after so much standing, clapping, singing along and dancing in the aisles.
I heard so many of my favorite Drew Parker songs. He also manages to do what I think most country artists do – he tells a great story. I give the song writers the credit for coming up with the story – but the artists (many of whom are also the creators) are the ones who b ring that story to us. It’s great listening to their music, but when you see them live, you pretty much get lost in the story. I didn’t take notes for these shows. I always take notes. These concerts, however, took every little tiny piece of my attention span. No note-taking for me.
I hope you willl all keep up with Drew’s show dates, and his music! Remember to buy those CDs, too! Streaming is nice, it’s convenient for listeners. But these guys work hard, and we all need to keep adding to our CD collections. I really hope you will all go listen to his music – find those songs you might not have heard before. My favorites? So many. But a few include “Tomorrow”, “Ill Love You Longer”, “At the end of the Dirt Road”, Camouflage Cowboy”, “Clearly Confused” … I have some that are super favorites and some I just really, really like. but I don’t think Drew has any song out there I don’t want to listen to more than once.
