Country music fans and industry insiders alike are buzzing about Drew Baldridge’s remarkable achievement as he celebrates his place on the Top 5 on the Country Airplay charts with his single “She’s Somebody’s Daughter.” Baldridge, who achieved this milestone independently, recently shared his incredible journey on The Spout Podcast with host Nick Major. “She’s Somebody’s Daughter” went viral on TikTok, racking up 10 million views in just one day and sparking the “daughter trend.” Despite the viral success, Baldridge didn’t receive the label support he anticipated. Undeterred, he formed his radio promotion team and launched Lyric Ridge Records, aiming initially just for a Top 40 spot. Now, he’s celebrating a Top 5 hit and reflecting on his independent journey.
“You know, I never dreamed that we would be Top 5. I knew this song was special. I knew. I saw people reacting to it on TikTok. Now there’s like a billion views, which is wild to think about,” Baldridge tells The Spout Podcast. “I didn’t know if I could get the industry behind it, you know, and it’s been super awesome to watch the industry and country radio just really support this song and I feel like I’m really getting a shot here to have my first No.1.”
Baldridge expressed deep gratitude for the journey, acknowledging the significance of achieving success on his terms. “I feel very blessed and very, like, humbled and a lot of gratitude right now to know that, ‘Hey, we done this,’ but it’s also a little bit more, you know? I guess like a little more weight to it knowing we did it ourselves, you know? There wasn’t like some big label pushing some fancy button,” he noted. “It was the song. It was the people that streamed the song. It was the people that requested the song. It was radio needing to play this song because people wanted to hear it. And that’s what makes it special, more special, you know? More special that… that we did it ourselves.”
In addition to his success, Baldridge has recently signed with a new booking agency and manager, a welcome development after a period of working without these key supports for so many years. “I just want to write songs, man. I want to sing for people and do a little business,” he said.
Looking ahead, Baldridge hinted at a potential follow-up single. “We have a song that I’m really excited about right now. I can’t really say a lot,” he admits to The Spout Podcast. “Hopefully it’ll be out and we’ll start teasing it over the next couple of weeks, but it’s been kind of an interesting journey for us, for this song of another artist cutting it, us trying to, you know, get it back or should I get it back?
