After co-writing with Ashley McBryde on the songs “Home Sweet Highway” on her Grammy, CMA and ACM-nominated album Girl Going Nowhere and “6th of October” on her current album, The Devil Know, CJ Field is releasing the first single off his first full length album, Cannonball, on Friday, August 23. “Greatest Show on Earth” (LINK) was also co-written with McBryde and hit songwriter, Terri Jo Box, as a reminder to always be themselves. An anthem for doing things your own way to be freaking awesome.
This song has been the theme for Box’s Music Row Freakshow Songwriters Night that she’s hosted twice a week at The Local in Nashville for over eight years, so it only seems fitting to host the “Greatest Show on Earth” single release party at the Freakshow on Wednesday, September 18. A lineup of special guests will be released in the coming weeks for a night that will kick off with Field playing a full band show followed by amazing songwriters representing everything locals and tourists love about the Music Row Freakshow.
Field lives the words of this song as he continues to do things differently with this album that he put out on his own and is currently only available on vinyl. This album has been a work in progress for over a decade since he moved back home to Massachusetts to raise his kids in 2011. In September 2022, he took a leap of faith by quitting his job as a carpenter to pursue music again full time. It was his kids who influenced his decision to play music again for a living with the Cannonball album created as a gift to them that they can have forever.
HIs kids aren’t the only ones he wants to inspire with “Greatest Show on Earth” with it coming out at a time when we could all use a way to come together rather than continue to be driven apart with everything going on in the world. His love for his country is strong with Field starting a non profit organization, Fight 4 Them Foundation, in July to give back to those who make it possible for him to be who he is and do what he loves.
