Our 2024 Appalachian Fair has come to an end. I believe I would be accurate to say everyone who attended this year had a great time.  The rides are always fun, Fair food just can’t be beat, and from the competitions, pageants, and local acts on the Museum Stage and in the Farm and Home Building, to the headliners on the Main Stage, we could not have asked for anything more.  For 97 years, the Appalachian Fair executive director, board of directors, staff and volunteers have come together to make this fair what it is today.

Travis Denning took the stage on Thursday night, following his opener, Chayce Beckham.  For people who didn’t no already, it took only a minute to discover that Travis is one of the best musicians in Nashville.  Watching him play was as enjoyable, and as pleasant, as the rest of the show.

With the help of his band, Aaron Lagrone, drums; Mathew Davidson, guitar and Rex Brewer, bass, we heard all of our favorite Travis Denning songs.  The set list included a few covers, which were great. A few of the songs we heard on Thursday night were “Strawberry Wine”, “Beer For My Horses”, “Buy A Girl A Drink”, “After A Few”, “Dust on the Bottle”, “White House Road,” and of course, “Abby”.

Travis was a smiling, charismatic artist. He took the time out of his busy day to join Nikki Thomas and Marcus Brooks for an on-air live interview. The interview was held after he had already stood out in that hot sun taking care of his sound check and other pre-show stage settings. We just love it when our artists come out for the interviews, and we get to be part of that close contact with them.

All-in-all, we had an awesome week in gray, Tenn., with the 2023 Appalachian Fair. As soon as this year’s fair was over, everyone started working on the 2024 fair.  This is always a major event for the folks in Northeast Tennessee, Southwest Virginia, Western North Carolina, and parts of Kentucky.

We can’t talk about the Fair without talking about the sponsors – and there are many.  A huge thanks to Hardees, Texas Roadhouse, Food City, James H. Drew Exposition, WXBQ Radio,m Washington County Farmers Co-Op, Dr. Enuf, Tennessee Farm Bureau, Farm Credit Rural 1, First Bank & Trust Company, Eastman Credit Union, and Meade Tractor.  Our Main Stage sponsors, who presented the shows for this year, were Rocky Top Vapor, Church Brothers Family Fun Store, Dr. Enuf, Precision Electric West Hills Tractor and United Southeast Federal Credit Union,

Keep up with Travis Denning by visiting all of his social media sites.
