On Thursday night, July 4th, country music fans in the Tennessee, Virginia, North Carolina tri-state area were treated with one of the best Independence Day shows in this area.
Sponsors for the event included Pepsi, Food City, WXBQ Radio and WJHL News 11. For the past 37 years, this holiday celebration has drawn visitors from many neighboring states. This year’s headliners, Tigirlily, were an extra special treat. (Openers included Noah Spencer and Drew Baldridge, who you will read about in the next two articles).
This was a night when my pen and paper never got out of the camera bag. My memory is not what it once was, so we don’t have a full set list to share with you – however…from the first song to the last, Kirsta and Kendra had the crowd in the palm of their hands. These sisters are not only talented but have an infections stage presence that keeps you focused on them and their music.
Many fans were familiar with their songs, “I Tried a Ring On”, “Shoot Tequila” and “LeRoy”, but in addition to these songs, and many of their others, the girls covered Lee Greenwood’s “God Bless the U.S.A.”.
In addition to being awesome on stage, Kendra and Krista are very nice people. They are very down-to-earth young ladies, who are obviously having a great time doing what they love to do.
The About section on their website tells us the sisters “have been paying music together since they could walk”. They were raised in Hazen, North Dakota. After moving to Nashville, they landed a weekly residence at Dierks Bentley’s Whiskey Row. Krista and Kendra are Monument Records artists and will release their EP BLONDE on July 26.
I would love to introduce you to the band, but unfortunately, during the on-stage introduction of these awesome entertainers, I was changing camera batteries, and didn’t get to write down the names. To say they are super talented is an understatement. They are the kind of band that work well with every member, and with the artists in front of them.
We have a lot of photos to share with you from the show. Again, a huge thank you to the sponsors of our Independence Day Celebration at Freedom Hall in Johnson City, Tenn. Food City, 96.9 WXBQ (notice our WXBQ Rabbit in the pictures below), WJHL News 11, and of course the City of Johnson City, and the great folks at Freedom Hall.
