I guess it’s true that we all learn something new every day.  Today I learned about the International Bluegrass Music Association Trust Fund.  I was sent a CD to review, but not just any CD.  It is called “Come See About Me,” and is a great collection of bluegrass songs, recorded by some of our best bluegrass artists.  The reason for the CD, to raise money for the IBMA Trust Fund.

Now, let me tell you about the trust fund.  It was started to raise money for artists, writers and musicians who come on hard times.  To give them financial support in a time of need.  The information that came with the CD says in part…”Musicians are artists and creators first.  they’re always thinking about their next song, their next performance, not about the next illness, bus wreck or hardship that will appear tomorrow or in 10 years from now.  they don’t plan for that.  the original purpose of the IBMA Trust Fund was to creat financial support for musicians who encounter such unplanned events.  The goal is to see them through….’

Now that you know that, hear this! The CD is great.  Te songs are not just good bluegrass, they are inspirational.  All of the songs are done by well-known bluegrass performers, like The Grascals, Doyle Lawson & Quicksilver, and Lonesome River Band.

The first song, “Their Hands Made the Music,” by Sideline, pretty much sums up what the record is all about, and why the fund is necessary.  The song tells the story of a musicians life. It talks aobut the hard work, the good music, the people they’ve touched through the years, and “here’s to all the pickers and the legends we’ve lost, to the ones who carry on the torch, no martter what the cost – trusting in the music, trusting in the love, for all that they have given, we can’t give back enough.”

I need to talk to the country fans out there.  You know who you are.  the ones that don’t think they like bluegrass music.  Maybe you just need to listen to it.  And, this is a good place to start.  This is a good album, and one that I’m sure I will be listening to often. Check it out.  I think you will all like it, too.
